Hyundai’s Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist can reduce accidents by up to 50%

A recent study by Automotive News has revealed that Hyundai’s Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA) and other technologies like it, can reduce rear end collisions by 50% when the rear vehicle is equipped with a forward collision avoidance or auto braking system. 

“front-to-rear crashes resulting in injury were reduced by 53 percent for vehicles with both forward-collision warning and automatic emergency braking equipped. Front-to-rear crashes considered “serious” were reduced by 42 percent in vehicles with the two technologies, the analysis showed.”

These technologies have such a large impact on reducing collisions because it reacts instantly using sensors and a camera located in the vehicle. Even under the best circumstances and driving conditions the average human reaction time of 300 milliseconds can be the difference between a collision and safely braking. In reality, nearly 60% of drivers on the road today admit to texting or reading their phone while driving which makes Hyundai’s Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA) a necessary part of your vehicle’s safety system. 

The good news is that Hyundai offers FCA, along with a long list of other standard safety features on every vehicle that is part of its 2023 model lineup.

Drivers in Spokane and the Pacific Northwest as a whole will be happy to hear that the study also demonstrated that automatic emergency braking performs “extremely well in all conditions, even when roadway, weather and lighting conditions are not ideal.”

How Does Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist Work?

How to Activate Hyundai’s Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist?

• Once you have started the vehicle and the ignition is on, press the Mode button on the right side of your steering wheel. The Mode button will be the top left button and looks like a stack of papers (pictured above). Keep pressing this button until you see the User Setting option on your instrument display.
• Navigate to Driver Assistance and select Forward Collision-Avoidance. Make sure the box next to Forward Collision-Avoidance is now checked.
• From the same menu, navigate to Forward Collision Warning and select from Late, Normal, or Early braking settings. Early is best for high-speed travel, and Late is best for slow moving city driving.
• Forward-Collision-Avoidance is now active, and will remain so until deactivated from the menu.
