Hyundai has More Top Safety Picks Than Any Other Manufacturer On the Road Today

The all-new 2022 Hyundai Santa Cruz was just awarded a Top Safety Pick (TSP) designation when equipped with specific headlights, from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). The Santa Cruz was recognized for meeting all six IIHS crash-worthiness evaluations and headlight performance. This latest accomplishment places Hyundai and Genesis 2021 and 2022 product lineups as the top safety leader on the road today with a combined total of 18 IIHS safety awards!

“As we continue on our journey for world-class safety, the recognition for our all-new sport adventure vehicle, Santa Cruz and its receiving IIHS Top Safety Pick further demonstrates this commitment,” 

said Brian Latouf, chief safety officer, Hyundai Motor North America.

How do Vehicles Earn TSP and TSP+ Ratings?

In order to earn the Top Safety Pick designation, vehicles must get Good ratings or better in all six IIHS crashworthiness tests (driver- and passenger-side small overlap front, moderate overlap front, side, roof strength and head restraints). They must also feature (at least as options) front crash prevention systems that earn a Superior or Advanced rating in both vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-pedestrian evaluations. And, they must be available with Good or Acceptable headlights.

The highly coveted TSP Plus designation is given to models that have good or acceptable headlights across all trim levels and packages. In total, the IIHS carries out test in nine different categories: Moderate overlap front, Side, Head restraints and seats, Roof, Small overlap front: driver’s side, Front crash prevention: vehicle-to-vehicle, Headlights, Small overlap front: passenger-side and Front crash prevention: vehicle-to-pedestrian.

“The 2022 Santa Cruz, Hyundai’s first sport adventure vehicle sold in North America, meets all the requirements for the Top Safety Pick award,”

“Both the standard and optional front crash prevention systems earn superior ratings in the vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to pedestrian evaluations, and the LED projector headlights available on the SEL Premium and Limited trims earn a good rating.”
